German bank doubles footprint at Mitsui Fudosan America’s 1251 6th Avenue
JLL has completed a 62,400 s/f long-term lease for the top two floors of 1251 Avenue of the Americas in Midtown Manhattan for the headquarters of Berenberg Capital Markets LLC.
Berenberg Capital Markets renewed its lease for 31,700 s/f on the entire 53rd floor and expanded by 30,700 s/f on the entire 52nd floor, with each floor offering virtually column-free floorplates, outstanding light and expansive views.
The tenant was represented by Mitchell Konsker and Alexander Chudnoff, vice chairmen, and Benjamin Bass, managing director, with JLL. Property owner Mitsui Fudosan America was represented by David Falk, principal and president, New York tri-state region, and Peter Shimkin, vice chairman, with Newmark.
Constructed in 1971, 1251 Avenue of the Americas is a LEED Gold-Certified, 54-story, 2.4-million-square-foot Class A office tower situated between 49th and 50th Streets. The property features an outdoor plaza with a prominent two-tier pool and fountain.
Located directly across from Rockefeller Center, 1251 Avenue of the Americas benefits from proximity to all area amenities and Midtown’s major transportation hubs.
“We are very pleased that our investment banking services in the United States are meeting with such strong demand and that we were able to expand our business faster than planned. For almost ten years, Berenberg has been providing services to its steadily growing client base in the USA, particularly in the areas of equity research, sales and trading, and equity capital markets,” said Hendrik Riehmer, managing partner of Berenberg, the German banking institution founded in 1590.
“This transaction positions Berenberg Capital Markets in the heart of Midtown to continue to expand its New York presence,” Konsker said. “It’s an opportune time for the company to secure long-term space that facilitates its operations and growth.”
“The expansion on the 52nd floor will provide Berenberg Capital Markets with the space to accommodate its fantastic growth in New York City and its ability to recruit top talent and maintain an ideal corporate culture,” Bass said.
